"Endgame" RvR

So, after complaining about WAR's "endgame" since beta, I figured I might actually try giving it a shot. I put in three hours today toward a fortress push and it wasn't pretty...

After zerging, zerging, and then zerging some more in Reikland for a couple hours, we managed to take both keeps. Etaine was already locked and we controlled most of the stuff in KV. We then defended for a while, and really there wasn't much you could do unless you were part of or at least hung around near the zerg.

Even though most of the fighting was happening in Reikland, we actually managed to flip KV, which meant a lot of us rushed the fortress. Our main goal was to actually flip Reikland since that fort is easier to take (apparently). Order still had a couple WBs in Reikland and we didn't want to lose it so we couldn't push the KV fort with our full force.

By the time we got there, at least equal numbers were inside the fort and a good wb was guarding outside the fort so we couldn't get reinforcements. We basically stood at a retarded stalemate for 45 minutes, at which point Reikland flipped and I decided to push that fort instead.

I finally got back to Reikland and the zone was teeming with people. After some hard-fought battles along the way to the fort I managed to sneak into the fort zone. Unfortunately, it was full and it teleported me back to the warcamp. Fine... I'll play spoiler so that more Order can't get in. I run back into the zone and crash. I log back in and crash again.

At that point I logged in frustration. Performance was getting worse and worse through the entire city push. It started so so as the zergs were fighting over keeps in Reikland but degraded in 2 second lag between actions in the KV fort. By the time I was trying to hit the Reikland fort, my commands were lagging by 3-4 seconds and general RvR was getting very choppy.

I'm simply left with a bad taste in my mouth after the experience. The new token system sounds great, except for one main thing: The example prices seem outrageous (250 medallions, for Anni shoulders and 15 crests + 375 medallions for the conqueror belt... that's a hella lot).

I'm even having a hard time getting my elite RvR influence Spear and Bow because so much of the fighting these days takes place in Empire/Chaos zones and the items I want come from the other two.

Blah... I just had to vent.

I haven't done T4 RvR in over 2 weeks. It sounds really great on paper but when it comes down to it I really just do not enjoy mindlessly pushing keep after keep and BO just to hit a lag/aoe fest at an EVEN BIGGER keep. Then hit the city for some pq's.

Doubt the game will entertain me much longer, the merge with PT was pretty fun though. Got to play some alts that had nearly been abandoned and I had a good time. I just can't bring myself to continue leveling those alts when I know what's in store for me at 40. Not my cup of tea for sure, and I'm a little angry it took me this long to figure that out =p

The whole purpose of the KV push wasn't to take the fort Brooke, it was to allow us to take Reikland while trapping the defenders there. It's called strategery! Unfortunately, it was all a big waste of time because there are so many bugs on keep gates and also because of the power of gtaoes.

If the zone hadn't crashed we would've been in Altdorf.

I was in TM when it crashed (we failed taking the Dwarf fort and we were capping the keeps there), and simultaneously, I see like 60+ people drop from a channel, Reikwald falls, order caps Reikland, order caps Eataine (Elf zone reset). The first 3 definitely indicate the crash, but I suspect that the Elf zone reset was triggered because the server thought that Empire/Chaos reset back to Praag when it actually crashed.

I think the way it supposed to work is that after you take 1 fort, you have 12 hours to start attacking another, and if you take that, you get to the city. If the timer is up and you're still in the process of attacking a fort, it waits until the outcome. We started attacking Reikwald before the 12 hours was up, and we did eventually get it, but the crash reset Elf zone prematurely, so we didn't get the chance to assault the city.

(I could be wrong, but I'm relatively sure I'm right on the way its supposed to happen.)

It reset due to time, we were 20 minutes too late on the 12 hour timer. We were twenty minutes late because of the bugged doors at KV and the crash in Reikland sad

No, that's my point. If we're in the middle of attacking a fort when the timer expires - it waits until the outcome of the attack. (at least thats the way I'm pretty sure its setup)

The Elf zone reset to DW at the *exact* moment Empire vs Chaos zone crashed - the way I received the server wide messages, it sure looks like one caused the other. Sure, cause and correlation aren't always the same, but that's a pretty big coincidence.

If someone knows to the minute both when the Elf fort was taken and when it reset, that would be helpful. On the WHA forums, the first post I see that Shining Way had fallen was at 5:25AM. In the crash thread started at 5:14PM the first post mentioning the Elf reset is at 5:22PM.

So possibilities are:
1) Unrelated, server crash at critical time, Destro bad luck.
2) Empire vs Chaos crash released Elf fort waiting for outcome.
3) Elf fort reset caused Empire vs Chaos zone crash due to extra strain of reset.

I guess I didn't word it properly in my initial post, but I know that. We were in KV simply to draw attention away from Reikland so we could flip it. The strategy wasn't initially known to me but after a couple messages in region chat, it became clear.

The whole point of this post is that I tried playing the game as it was meant to be played and I didn't have a great time due to all the tactics (zergs), exploits (stacking gtaoe), and bugs (crashes). sad
